Inspired by Hurricane Irene

I put together this look yesterday while we were waiting out Hurricane Irene. I live in central southern Massachusetts, and we got some pretty crazy winds and lots of rain. Besides some yard cleanup, the most inconvenient part about Hurricane Irene was losing power for 24 hours. We played countless games of gin rummy and Scrabble by candlelight and made it through safe and sound. I wasn’t sure how the makeup would turn out once I uploaded the pictures, since I applied it standing by the window (the skies were very dark) with a small mirror. It’s cool and shimmery and dark and was most definitely inspired by the colors in the sky.

Because I didn’t want to keep running back to my makeup table for each color, most of the colors I used were from the Sleek MakeUp Monaco palette (except for the matte black, which is Espresso Martini from Sleek MakeUp Curacao palette, and the shimmery white, which is Buxom Sheepdog).

On the eyes:

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Buxom Sheepdog all over from lashes to brow, using a clean finger to apply
  • Summer Breeze (get it? the hurricane winds) patted on center of lid
  • Aquamarine (the pouring rain) patted on outer 1/2 of lid
  • Midnight Garden patted on outer corner of lid, then blended well
  • Espresso Martini in a thick line along upper lashes and mixed with Midnight Garden to tightline and under lower lashes
  • 2 coats Buxom mascara

On the lips:

  • Pretty Amazing Allure
  • BE lipgloss in Smile

On the face:

  • Original Prime Time
  • Laura Geller Balance N Brighten Regular
  • Vintage Peach blush
  • Original Mineral Veil

About Essy
I'm finally figuring out this makeup thing in my 30's. It's so much fun to collect and play with new colors and styles. I'm not a makeup artist, and far from it. I welcome any comments and tips you have!
