Laura Geller Baked Vanilla Nudes

I picked up this beauty of a kit at Ulta. It’s the Laura Geller Baked Vanilla Nudes collection, and comes with a foundation,  a cheek trio (contour/blush/highlight), an eye duo, lipstick, full size mascara, and a double ended brush. I love most of the parts of this kit! I’ve turned into a huge fan of Laura Geller Balance N Brighten foundation – I think that it really does what it says it will… balance and brighten! Unfortunately, the kit available at Ulta only comes with the Regular shade, which is just a touch too dark for me. I prefer the Fair shade, but as long as I don’t cake on the Regular too much, it looks fine.

The cheek trio was really nice. The contour shade is a little bit on the orange side for my skin tone to use as a contour color, but mixed with the blush, I thought it gave me a nice healthy glow. My first thought with the highlighter was that it was fine. Just fine, not “wow.” It came across a little chalky and didn’t give a very noticeable highlight as I was applying, but I did notice it throughout the day as I caught my reflection – between the healthy glow of the blush/contour, and the subtle highlight, I was lovin’ my cheekbones yesterday!

The eye duo is very, very pretty. It applied smoothly and blended nicely. It stayed in place all day long. Unfortunately, I have to give two thumbs down to the mascara. It applied very wet (which is not good for someone with long lashes – it gets everywhere), did not give my lashes very good definition (although the length it gave was decent), but the worst part was that it was next to impossible to remove. I love my Bare Escentuals cleanser, which takes off all makeup – except, apparently, for Laura Geller mascara. Even my oil based makeup remover took some time to scrub it off.

About Essy
I'm finally figuring out this makeup thing in my 30's. It's so much fun to collect and play with new colors and styles. I'm not a makeup artist, and far from it. I welcome any comments and tips you have!
