Sleek MakeUp Au Naturel: Moss & Bark

Working once again with the Sleek MakeUp Au Naturel palette, I went with the olive color called Moss today, with the dark brown Bark. Olive green is one of my least favorite colors on my eyes. You know that I try to rock any color of the rainbow, but for some reason, olive green never quite works on me as well as I want it to.

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals Brightening Opal eye primer
  • Sleek MakeUp Au Naturel palette: Honeycomb on inner eye, Moss all over the lid and under outer lower lashes, Bark in the crease, Taupe on center lid and under inner lower lashes
  • Noir on upper waterline and drylined along lashline
  • bareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • Revlon lip butter in Candy Apple
  • bareMinerals Pretty Amazing lipcolor in Perky

On the face:

  • Clinique bb cream in Shade 1
  • Laura Geller Balance n Brighten in Fair
  • MAC mineralize blush in Dainty

Sleek MakeUp Au Naturel palette: Taupe & Mineral Earth

I bought the Sleek MakeUp Au Naturel i-Divine palette a few weeks ago, but it’s been sitting unloved and untouched since it arrived. You know I love to play with color, and even though I knew the quality of the palette was sure to be great, the colors were just uninspiring to me. I finally decided to break it out and now I know that this little baby will be getting all kinds of love and attention from me!

As always with Sleek eye palettes, the pigmentation of the shadows is phenomenal, along with the blendability and smoothness of the product. While the colors appear slightly boring, they transform into gorgeous, sophisticated colors once applied. Everyone’s “holy grail” nude palette, Urban Decay NAKED palette, is not a favorite of mine – those shadows are beautiful colors, but they fade and crease on me like crazy. Sleek’s new nude palette has all the pretty colors with none of the fading or creasing. And while NAKED retails for about $48,  Sleek’s Au Naturel runs for about $10.50. Of course, the accessibility of U.K.-based Sleek leaves something to be desired as it’s not available to purchase in North America unless you either pay for international shipping, or wait patiently for one of their highly coveted free shipping codes. I strongly recommend that if you’re interested in buying some Sleek, to “like” them on Facebook and wait for a free shipping code to pop up once in a while.

tarte Rising Star palette: Shimmering Sage

When I take pictures of my makeup every day, I can’t always guarantee the best lighting when I travel. The pictures were taken inside and outside of a busy Starbucks, and since I was making a bit of a spectacle of myself with my little solo photo shoot, I couldn’t play around with different lighting options if I wanted to keep my dignity intact!

I used one of the new holiday kits from tarte Cosmetics, called Rising Star. It’s a cute little palette that comes with 12 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, a contour color, and a highlighter. When I received it in a Sephora.com haul, I was surprised at how small it was – but for me, that was actually a bonus. I like small palettes that make use of their space wisely (an example of something that annoys me is Urban Decay’s Book of Shadows – it’s so big with so much wasted space!).

The palette only comes with three matte shades (a nude, a light pink, and a dark brown), and I would have liked to have seen at least one more matte shade, maybe in a medium brown or grey). Today I used four of the colors – Shimmering Citrine (which is more glitter than shimmer), Shimmering Sage (a very nice olive with the perfect amount of shimmer for my taste), Shimmering Sienna, and Shimmering Steel Blue (on the lower waterline). My experience with tarte palettes has been mixed. I have an ongoing love affair with so many of their products (mascara, gel liners, cream shadows), but their eyeshadows are always a mixed bag when it comes to quality.

On the eyes:

  • Cameo Pink Primer Shadow
  • tarte Shimmering Citrine on inner corner
  • tarte Shimmering Sage on outer 3/4 of lid, and under lower lashes
  • tarte Shimmering Sienna in the crease
  • tarte Shimmering Steel Blue patted on lower waterline
  • tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara

  • NYX lipgloss in Beige (although it’s a pink gloss)
