Tangerines in August

A layer of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Fierce & Tangy really made the gold color pop, without any of the tangerine color coming through. I have 3 of these products now, and look forward to getting some more – they really make a great base, comparable to Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream pots but at a fraction of the cost. For some reason, the first couple of times that I used them, the shadows faded and creased badly, but now that I use a brush instead of my fingers, they stay put all day.

bareMinerals READY Quad: The Afterparty

So, I just wrote up a nice post about how much I love this Bare Escentuals Ready 4.0 quad: The Afterparty. Unfortunately, it didn’t save and wiped out the whole post, including which products I wore on my face. To summarize the lost post: yay for the Afterparty quad!

tarte Rising Star: Pink & Pewter

I’m shakin’ things up! I wore a blush as an eyeshadow today – I know, I know, I am such a rebel. I love pinks and plums on my eyes, though I know those colors don’t work for everyone. Fortunately for me, that means that every blush I own can also be used on my eyes!

I also used the tarte Rising Star palette. This is a cute little palette that’s perfect for travel. I used the Shimmering Smoke and Shimmering Cocoa colors, although the “cocoa” is way more purple and grey than it is brown.

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals primer shadow in Brightening Sunlight
  • tarte blush in Dazzling
  • tarte Shimmering Cocoa on outer 1/3 of lid and blended into crease
  • tarte Shimmering Smoke drylined along upper and lower lashes
  • bareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • tarte LipSurgence in Obsession
  • Buxom Heather

On the face:

  • boscia bb cream
  • Mally correcting concealer duo
  • Laura Geller Balance n Brighten in Porcelain
  • tarte blush in Dazzling

bareMinerals READY: The Scenic Route

I’m such a big fan of the new line of READY shadows from Bare Escentuals. There are those that wish the company had stuck with just the loose minerals, but I think that it was a good move for the company, and opened up the line to so many people who didn’t like the individual pots and the loose minerals. I think the shadows are incredibly velvety and smooth, and the colors are extremely pigmented and lovely. I saw swatches of The  Scenic Route duo and thought this was such a pretty duo – even though I rarely go for olive greens.

On the eyes:

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • The Scenic Route – Breathtaking (the lighter shade) on inner lid, Spectacular (the green shade) on outer lid and blended into crease
  • bareMinerals Round the Clock eyeliner in 10pm
  • Mally Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • Revlon Colorburst lip butter in Sugar Plum

On the face:

  • Laura Geller Balance n Brighten in Porcelain
  • Laura Geller Blush n Brighten in Sateen Subtle Berry

tarte: Glow Your Way to Gorgeous, 3rd shipment

Well, I kind of cheated. I didn’t buy the first two shipments of this tarte Auto Delivery kit, and instead, just purchased this third shipment from my friend who had it shipped directly to me. Worth. Every. Penny. I’m already a huge fan of most of the pieces of this kit, so I knew I’d like it. I just had no idea how much I would love the blush, the brush, and the makeup bag. For me, the makeup bags and the brushes that always come in kits are just extras – they’re the forgotten middle child of a kit. Until I run across the rare kit where the middle child shines and rounds out the whole family by kicking it up a notch.

Here’s what we get:

  1. Maracuja Creaseless concealer: I usually wear Fair, but decided to try Medium to experiment with contouring. This is a really nice, creamy concealer that is actually very good for the skin (loads of Vitamin C in the maracuja oil).
  2. Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Dazzled: tarte blushes are known to be long lasting and high quality, and this one is no exception. It’s a lovely rosy color with a hint of shimmer, and will work nicely on most skin tones.
  3. Amazonian Clay cream shadow in Pink Champagne: I was surprised that this cream shadow didn’t lean more towards pink, but I’m still happy with the color. It’s more of a peachy champagne color that is pigmented enough to wear alone or as a base shadow. These work best when applied with a brush rather than with a finger. It’s an excellent addition to my growing collection!
  4. Double-Ended Eye Brush: Comes with an angled liner side and a domed shadow brush side. Both sides are dense and stiff, which is a nice change from the other tarte brushes that I already own.
  5. Face brush: I’m not sure if this brush was intended to be used for blush, but since I didn’t previously own any tarte face brushes, I wanted to try it out. It is SO soft and luxurious! I just kept rubbing it all over my face with a dumb look plastered on my face (seriously!). It worked really nicely with the blush, though it’s a bit large. I also used it for finishing powder and it was really perfect for that.
  6. smolderEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner in Brown: smolderEYES liners are jumbo pencils that come with a smudger on one end. These are perfect to crease a soft, smoldering, smoky eye, and the smudger makes it super easy to blend.
  7. Lights Camera Lashes! mascara: This is one of my top 3 favorite mascaras of all time. It gives lashes superior definition and length, with ZERO clumping or flaking or smudging.
  8. LipSurgence lip luster in Obsession: These lip crayons are very moisturizing and have just the right amount of pigment. This is a lovely rosy color that perfectly complements the blush. My only complaint about the tarte LipSurgence products that have shimmer in them (which this one does) is that when the fairly long-lasting color starts to wear off the lips, it leaves the shimmer behind.
  9. Purple quilted makeup bag: If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll know that I travel quite a bit. This is a very soft, lovely bag that will be perfect for a weekend trip. It’s probably one of my favorite “kit” makeup bags I’ve ever received, because of the color, the perfect size (so many bags are WAY too tiny for this makeup junkie), and the luxuriousness of the soft material.

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals original eye primer
  • tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay cream shadow in Pink Champagne, applied with domed shadow brush, all over lid from lash to crease
  • tarte smolderEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner applied in a thick line on upper lashline, and lower lashline and waterline, then smudged and blended into crease using the smudging tool
  • tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara (2 coats on upper lashes, 1 coat on lower)

On the lips:

  • tarte LipSurgence in Obsession

On the face:

  • CoverFX liquid foundation
  • tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Fair
  • tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Medium to contour cheeks
  • tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Dazzled
  • Make Up For Ever HD microfinish powder

bareMinerals Year of Beauty: March, April & May

The final three shades from my little mini-series featuring the Bare Escentuals Year of Beauty were these gorgeous spring colors. These three colors will be fun to pair with all kinds of different shades, and I’m excited to work with all three of them again in the future.

A new product I used today is the new Smashbox BB cream. I got a sample of it when I popped into Sephora this week, because I was hearing good things about it and wanted to give it a try. My very first experience with it is that I found it gave good coverage, matched my skintone well, but it got “pilly” when I put it on. I’m having a hard time figuring out how to describe what I mean by “pilly,” but I basically mean that when I was applying it with my fingers, it didn’t sink right into my skin – it pilled up and left product in these sort of crumbs around my face. In the bb cream’s defense, I did apply it within a couple of minute of moisturizing my face, so that may have had an impact on the application. I’ll keep working on it and let you know more thoughts after using it for a few days.

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals original Prime Time eye primer
  • March Eyecolor (spring leaf) on inner half of eyelid
  • April Eyecolor (misty teal) on outer half of eyelid
  • May Eyecolor (blooming violet) in outer V and under lower lashes
  • bareMinerals Flawless Definition Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • Revlon Colorburst lip butter in Sugar Plum
  • tarte lipgloss (it doesn’t seem to have a name, but it’s bubblegum pink with gold shimmer)

On the face:

  • Smashbox BB cream in Fair
  • bareMinerals Tinted Hydrating Mineral Veil
  • Laura Geller Blush n Brighten in Sateen Subtle Berry
