Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection – Tangerine Tango

TANGERINE! Oh, my dear. I got super excited when I saw this Sephora + Pantone Universe collection, because orange has always been my favorite color. I stopped by my local Sephora yesterday for their VIB (Very Important Beauty) event to get my free umbrella and bag of samples (yay!) and this beauty stopped me right in my tracks. Now, I realize that orange (ahem, “tangerine”) is not for everybody, but for those that are willing to branch out a little bit, it can be surprisingly flattering. I am fair with neutral-pink undertones. I would LOVE to see this collection on a deeper-skinned beauty.

First of all, the packaging is nice, for the most part. The lipstick has a magnetic closure, which I liked a lot, but the four-cornered magnetic closures on the blush duo and the eyeshadow quad gave my clumsy hands some trouble Рas I pried open the eyeshadow lid, it slipped and knicked out a huge chunk of one of the eyeshadows.  I would have preferred a traditional snap open lid for these two products.

These two blushes are amazing. Just the right amount of peachy coral to compliment a lot of skintones.

This blush was a huge disappointment. It was nowhere near as pigmented as I think it should have been, and it took four applications to get it to show up on my skin. Then once I finally got the color to show up, I ended up being a huge glitterball. See all that orange dust around the product? That’s from having to swipe my brush across it so many times.

The eyeshadows are a mixed bag. The lightest color is really nice and makes a great highlight color. The orange is quite soft, so a lot of product grabs onto your brush, but is not as pigmented as I thought it would be. I still really like the peachy tangerine color that it ended up being, but it wasn’t even close to the rich orange in the pot. The darker colors weren’t all that pigmented either, but I’m betting they’ll make a nice liner when used wet.

The lipstick is fantastic. If you’re brave, you can wear it as a full-on orange lip, but for daytime, work-appropriate makeup, it can still be applied lightly and be worn under a neutral lipgloss – I intend to try it under a nude, a peach, and a pink lipgloss. Even though it’s orange, I think it can be really versatile. It’s smooth and creamy and lasted a long time.

This gloss is AMAZING. It’s quite orange when I first put it on, but it mellows out into a corally peach. The color stays for several hours and leaves my lips feeling hydrated. In one ten-minute trip to the grocery store, I got two separate compliments on it, from random strangers. My only complaint is that it leaves a bit of shimmer behind on the lip once it wears off.

Smashbox Click You’re It: Blues

Now this is how I like my blue eyeshadow. I’ve had the Smashbox Click You’re It palette since the holidays but haven’t touched the row of blues until today. They look far more… BLUE than they end up looking on the eyelid, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that, once applied, they are very soft and pretty.¬† This is most definitely an eye look that I will wear again!

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals¬† Brightening Pearl eye primer, concentrating on inner lid and as a brow highlight
  • Smashbox Click You’re It palette: Shade #3 on inner half of lid, Shade #8 on outer half of lid, Shade #13 in outer corner, Cream eyeliner in #18 to line upper and lower lashlines, Shade #4 above crease
  • Mally Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • MAC lipglass in Pinkarat

bareMinerals: Satin Ruffle & Magical

Magical is one of my all-time favorite eyeshadows – out of all the brands! I love plums and pinks on my eyes, and before I really got into makeup, plum was one of my everyday go-to colors. It works great for making me look more awake and bright. Many people think that they can’t wear any eyeshadow that has even a hint of red in it because it will make them look sad and tired, but I say – try out a few colors, from pale pink to plum to wine, and see if any of those shades can work for you.

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals Brightening Pearl eye primer
  • Satin Ruffle all over the lid from lashes to brows
  • Magical in outer corner and blended into crease
  • tarte Blackened Plum Amazonian Clay eyeliner
  • Mally Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • tarte Lipsurgence in Sweet

On the face:

  • Missha Cho Bo Yang bb cream
  • Laura Geller Balance n Brighten in Porcelain

  • bareMinerals Tinted Hydrating Mineral Veil

Urban Decay NAKED2: Verve

I just love that the Urban Decay NAKED2 palette allows us to create warm or cool, dramatic or natural looks all in one palette. I think my favorite shadow from this palette is Blackout, because it’s surprising how many larger palettes leave out something as simple and basic as a matte black. When I travel with this palette, I don’t even bother to bring a black eyeliner!

On the eyes:

  • bareMinerals original eye primer
  • Urban Decay NAKED2: Verve on inner 1/2 of lid, Pistol on outer 1/2 of lid, Blackout in outer corner and to line. Tease above crease to add definition, Bootycall under brow
  • Mally Volumizing mascara

On the lips:

  • Bourjois Paris Rouge Best
  • MAC lipglass in Pinkarat

On the face:

  • Missha Signature Complete bb cream

tarte Envoke the Smoke beauty box

tarte just had a new kit debut on QVC, and while I didn’t purchase the whole kit, my very generous friend sent me the eyeshadow box as a gift! It comes in this super cute packaging and I’m sure every time I use this eyeshadow quad, I’ll feel like I’m opening the gift over and over. I love the little flowered box, and inside we find four cool-toned shades in pink, grey, purple and black.¬† I’m looking forward to playing with these a bit more and figuring out different ways to wear them together – for instance, I could go for a bright pop of color on the lid with the purple, or keep it soft with the pink on the lid with a soft grey crease. I went for a bit of a smokey eye look today with the purple as a liner.

On the eyes:

  • tarte eye primer
  • tarte Envoke the Smoke beauty box: pink all over from lash to brow, grey on the lid, black in crease/outer V, and purple drylined.
