Bare Escentuals Panache, Smoulder, Flirt

I decided to wear the Sephora exclusive Cheek Tint kit again today with an added pop of Ultramarine eyeliner on the waterline. I expected the eyeliner to wear off fairly quickly, as it usually does, but I was not expecting the eyeshadows to fade and crease as much as they did. I very rarely have a problem with creasing or fading when using Bare Escentuals. I’m not sure if it was my application, not enough primer, or these particular shadows.

Mineralize me with MAC!

I recently picked up a trio of products from a Cosmetic Company Outlet. My absolute favorite product from MAC is definitely the mineralize blush in Feelin’ Flush, which I use pretty often. It has great pigmentation and blends beautifully. I saw this trio and I may or may not have squealed a little bit. I couldn’t wait to try out some more mineralized products, so I used all three in today’s look. The blush is wonderful, as expected – a nice natural peachy color called Dainty. The eyeshadow duo consists of two shimmery neutrals, one creamy color and one kind of apricoty copper. They applied easily but didn’t pack on a ton of color. The illuminizer is fantastic. In my full face picture today, I was pretty much in direct sunlight so you can’t see it that well, but when applied lightly all over the face, it gives a nice dewey glow all over. If applied a little heavier just on the cheekbones, it makes a fantastic highlight. I’ll be wearing this a lot and will give an update on its wearability and staying power.

Bare Escentuals Treasured, Sublime, and White Gold

I love the Bare Escentuals Perfect Gift series, and really like the soft greens from the second installment. I wanted to try the lighter mint green with a different crease color today, so I substituted Sublime, which is darker and has more shimmer. I swept White Gold all over the eyelid to soften it all up. White Gold is SO pretty and very blendable.

Laura Geller Bake Sale collection

Before I ordered this Laura Geller Bake Sale collection from QVC, the only LG product I had used was a Balance N Brighten foundation in the shade Regular. I absolutely love the effect of… well… balancing and brightening that the product has on my skin. However, the shade I had was just a touch too dark for me and I had to use it sparingly. I liked it best over Missha  bb creams. When I used it alone, the more I layered it for better coverage, the more apparent it was that I had the wrong color. In the height of summer, Regular can work for me, but as we all know… summer is nearly over!

I couldn’t wait to try this product in Fair, and I was also really excited to try LG’s other products. The fair Balance N Brighten foundation is a fantastic match for my skin, and I feel like I got some great coverage today over the Spackle Ethereal tinted primer.  Since I’m writing this only an hour after applying the collection, I can’t speak yet on the staying power of the primer, but although it says it’s tinted, it gives more of a dewy glow than any coverage. The blush is extremely pigmented, and this one pot of blush will last me for years. It blended fairly easily and is a pretty, cheery pink. The eyecolors are really beautiful colors. Unfortunately, they’re not terribly pigmented, and I felt like I had to pack on a lot of product to get the same color in the pot. I tried to use the darker chocolate color as a liner (wet), but it just didn’t pack on enough color to be effective. They’re very smooth and blendable, though, and if you like nice soft colors on your eyes, these will be great for you. The lipstick smells delicious and gives a good medium coverage. I love the color of the lipstick – it’s a brownish pink, and perfect for fall.

On the eyes:

  • BE Prime Time Brightening Opal
  • LG Birthday Cake eyecolor trio – light pink from lashes to brow, plum-brown all over lid, and chocolate brown in outer corner and blended into crease
  • BE Big & Bright eyeliner in Bronze along upper and lower lashlines
  • Buxom mascara

On the lips:

  • LG Strawberry Truffle lipstick

  • LG Spackle Tinted Primer in Ethereal
  • tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer under eyes and around nose
  • LG Balance N Brighten in Fair

I’m traveling all week, visiting my in-laws to help them around the house and with my newest nephew and his big brothers. I hope you forgive me. 🙂

  • Buxom Leatherette lashliner along upper lashline and smudged into lower lashes
  • Make Up For Ever smoky lash mascara

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream and some Buxom pups

A while back, I went to Sephora and got a sample of a Make Up For Ever aqua cream shadow in the turquoise color. It is a very generous sample, since you only need a tiny little bit of product for each use. I really wish I had thought to get a more usable color like cream or light pink. This is the first time I used this product and my first impressions are that you get a huge color payoff, but it’s hard to blend. The staying power is very good. To test it, I wore it over an eye primer that tends to crease on me (Urban Decay Primer Potion, original), and 12 hours after first applying it, I found that there was some very slight creasing on my inner lid. I was also outside in the pouring rain, and running around doing housework today, so I’m assuming it would hold up better over a good primer and not as much running around as I did today.  I did wear some Buxom stay-there eyecolors with it – mostly to tone down the color and try to blend it out.

I also got a very generous sample of Laura Mercier red lip stain. This is another product that will last me forever and has a great color payoff. I actually just keep the little sample jar in my purse, and pop some color on my lips using my finger to gently pat it on, for those days that I’m wearing just a gloss that wears off easily. I like this product a lot, and while I didn’t wear it on my lips today, I did try it as a cheek color. I just used a teensy tiny amount and blended it out with my fingers and it gave my cheeks a nice flushed look.

I’m kind of chatty today, but I have one more short review. I got a sample (I seriously love samples) of Smashbox liquid foundation. While I’ve been a Bare Escentuals foundation wearer for about 10 years, my curiosity has gotten the best of me lately and I’ve wanted to try out some liquid foundation. I really love the bb creams I’ve been trying but this Smashbox foundation really did not do it for me. It left my face feeling greasy and heavy, and didn’t give nearly enough coverage. I might have gotten better coverage if I had built up the product for a fuller coverage effect, but I didn’t want multiple layers of something that already felt heavy and greasy. More foundation reviews to come: tarte, MUFE HD, and Dior skin.

Inspired by Hurricane Irene

I put together this look yesterday while we were waiting out Hurricane Irene. I live in central southern Massachusetts, and we got some pretty crazy winds and lots of rain. Besides some yard cleanup, the most inconvenient part about Hurricane Irene was losing power for 24 hours. We played countless games of gin rummy and Scrabble by candlelight and made it through safe and sound. I wasn’t sure how the makeup would turn out once I uploaded the pictures, since I applied it standing by the window (the skies were very dark) with a small mirror. It’s cool and shimmery and dark and was most definitely inspired by the colors in the sky.

Because I didn’t want to keep running back to my makeup table for each color, most of the colors I used were from the Sleek MakeUp Monaco palette (except for the matte black, which is Espresso Martini from Sleek MakeUp Curacao palette, and the shimmery white, which is Buxom Sheepdog).

On the eyes:

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Buxom Sheepdog all over from lashes to brow, using a clean finger to apply
  • Summer Breeze (get it? the hurricane winds) patted on center of lid
  • Aquamarine (the pouring rain) patted on outer 1/2 of lid
  • Midnight Garden patted on outer corner of lid, then blended well
  • Espresso Martini in a thick line along upper lashes and mixed with Midnight Garden to tightline and under lower lashes
  • 2 coats Buxom mascara

On the lips:

  • Pretty Amazing Allure
  • BE lipgloss in Smile

On the face:

  • Original Prime Time
  • Laura Geller Balance N Brighten Regular
  • Vintage Peach blush
  • Original Mineral Veil
